There is a story I came across 11/29/13, of a Mormon Bishop Goes Undercover as Homeless Man to Teach about Compassion and Gratitude. This story is on the major news outlets via the internet as well as Cable News giants. Undercover meaning he dressed up as a homeless man and stood outside the church as the pew setters arrived for service. I have thought of doing this at random going around to churches and documenting the responses. Continue reading to get a first hand account of what I witnessed in the Church I was in.
Quoting parts the article at KUTV.com and you can see a video of it there too.
The bishop enlisted the help of his friend Tara Starling, a local professional makeup artist to come up with the disguise. “When he presented this idea to me, I said when and where…let’s do it,” said Starling. Starling used makeup and fake hair as part of Musselman’s disguise. He was so unrecognizable that not even his wife or children knew who he was.
Ward member Jaimi Larsen also didn’t recognize the homeless man as Musselman when he came walking into the chapel on Sunday. “He was dirty. He was crippled. He was old. He was mumbling to himself,” said Larsen.
Musselman said he got a lot of mixed reaction from ward members. One member even told him to leave church property.
Larsen says she watched from the chapel as Musselman walked to the pulpit – his disguise so real, she had no idea that he was about to reveal himself as their bishop.
Now here is the part I want to focus on and I will highlight the quote that should shake ANY Church Member in any BELIEF!!
After telling the audience what he was grateful for, Musselman finally revealed his true identity and took off his disguise. Larson says a hush fell over the crowd. “I started feeling ashamed because I didn’t say hello to this man. I didn’t offer him anything because I didn’t feel like I had anything to offer,” said Larsen.
I am not signaling out the Mormons here and I include the entirety of what it called the So-Called Christian Church, be they Mormon, Catholic, Jehovah’s Witness, Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, and the list goes on. They don’t have anything to Offer because they do not believe what the true word of God says and are NOT saved!! They do not believe Jesus is Savior! Its the Blind leading the Blind!!!
Matthew 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
“I didn’t offer him anything because I didn’t feel like I had anything to offer”
John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
That, John 3:16-18, is what the entirety of the Christian church should be “offering” to every one they come in contact with, but sadly the majority in “church” do not know it, don’t believe it, and like that lady do not have anything to offer!!
She did not have anything to offer him as God is not in the Mormon Church or any other false belief. The reason for a Christian Church is to preach and proclaim the Gospel, the Good news that Jesus Christ came to die for sinners. The Mormon Church does not believe they are sinners and in fact believe THEY can be gods! Its no difference with all of these other false beliefs. No one in false religion can offer anything to a lost and dying soul, so it is no surprise people shun the undesirables.
Now, not only the false religions shun such people, the ones who CLAIM to have the truth of the Gospel are really no better!
I ask you this question reader. When is the last time did you see a homeless person or the less fortunate in Church? When was the last time, watching your favorite Mega Church liar on TV, did you see a homeless person in rags in the audience? When is the last time you saw your favorite TV preacher/deceiver give an Alter Call and folks got saved? When is the last time you and your Church went out and ministered to the homeless and the lost?
For the vast majority it is NEVER because YOU “have nothing to offer”!! Are you all mad and worked up now? Are you looking for the link to send me a hate filled email?
Galatians 4:16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? And please Christian, leave out the profanity!!!
Apostasy in the Modern Church
2nd Timothy 3:1-9 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
1st Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Here is what I witnessed in the Baptist Church I was saved in.
It was one Sunday morning at the little Baptist Church I was saved in. I pulled into the parking lot a bit later then usual that Sunday morning. I saw a homeless man sitting on a car stop block, you know, like the ones in parking lots to stop you from pulling ahead too far. This one was not too far from the front door of the church and was for handicap parking. I watched for a minute or so waiting for the wife and daughter to get out of the vehicle. Some folk were starting to arrive too. As they were coming in they made an effort to give this man a WIDE birth and looked down or to the side. The man did nothing, just sat there looking down at the ground.
Just so happens I have my wife and daughter in the car as I would usually go early and they would come later. I believe Andrea was about 9, maybe 10 yrs old. We always used the side entrance to the sanctuary and did so that day. I never said anything to them as we were walking into the church, and baby girl, (now 27 with kids of her own at the time I write this) if you are reading this I am sure you remember. I walked to our spot we always sat at, right on the second row on the right hand side of the sanctuary and put down my Bible so no one could steal my spot. LOL
About that time Andrea speaks up to me and says “dad did you see that man out in front of the Church”? I said yes baby girl and before I could say more she wondered why people were just walking by this man and not looking at him or saying hello. We always tried to help out homeless people we came in contact with. She would be with us at a tackle shop I owned at one time and we would get the homeless hanging around. We would always witness to them and make them a sandwich if we had the means to do it. I told her that yes I saw it and would she like to come with me to go and talk to the man. So off we go out to see him. People were still ignoring him and still giving a wide birth. These were the same ones who gave the appearance of being holy being dressed all prim and proper.. you know the kind!!
Anyways, we sat down on the curb beside him and talked for a bit, I wish I could remember his name but that was almost 20 yrs ago. I remember inviting him in and having him set next to us right up in the front. He was dirty, smelled bad but the Lord did not care so I figured if Jesus and the Holy Spirit could tolerate it so could we!!
During the greeting part of the service not one of the people in the Church, including the Pastor came to greet the man, say hello or shake his hand! Now I am not claiming to be some super spiritual person, but if you have a heart for helping people who are down or Unsaved, how can you just ignore them? Jesus did not come for the religious folk, and in fact he spent his time ministering to the dirty old smelly sinner! Its what the lady exclaimed in the above quote, they did not have anything to OFFER this man! They just figured it was just another beggar looking for a hand out.
After service was over I gave the man a few dollars and told him Jesus loved him, prayed with him, and told him he did not have to stay in that condition. I will say the preacher always did preach salvation and did give an alter call at every service. This man did not respond publicly and I do not know if the man ever got saved as I never saw him again. Could this person have been a test for the Church? Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. I am not saying he was an angel, but it always has been in my mind.
I won’t go into any more similar stories or details, but after that incident I went to the pastor and we discussed it. He said that absolutely he wanted people like that in the church as that is what the church was for. He was LYING and I knew it. So, me being me, I made it a point to go out and BRING these people in! Well. that did not set too well with the congregation, the prim and proper ones again. I was asked not to do it anymore as it was draining the church pantry and funds out of bank account. I eventually left the Church!!
