The Doctrine of Sowing and Reaping

What is the true meaning of Sowing and Reaping – Part 1

Galatians 6:7-8 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

I originally wrote this for Part 8 of Generational, Ancestral and Family Curses. That whole series can be seen here.

“Those who choose to serve God are spared a direct curse from God, but the sin nature is always present and, at any time, can rear its ugly head. Even the most righteous person, the best that God has, can sin against Him. You don’t believe it? Then read the book of Job or get into 1st and 2nd Samuel and read about the life of David. In fact, read the entirety of the Old Testament and you will see that All of the men God had chosen failed him in one way or another. We also reap what we sow. If, all we have sown is evil and wickedness, then that is what we will reap. If we sow goodness and righteousness, then that is what we reap”

Understand that reaping what you have sown is NOT a curse per se, but more a matter of rules and consequences applied to the evil and good we have done, if I may use that analogy. God is a just God and will not let us get away with evil and disobedience.

2nd Thessalonians 1:6-8 “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”

And for the good we do according to his will, he will reward us.

Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

We will now go a bit more in-depth into what sowing and reaping really means. There is not a lot of scripture pertaining to this subject and those scriptures that do reference sowing and reaping are most often used by preachers only in the context of obtaining riches and earthly blessings. This should not be the case. “Word of Faith” fools are perverting The Word in order to line their pockets. In so doing, they draw good people OUT of the will of God, and into possible damnation! Yes, God wants to prosper His people and will do so, but only in His way and in His timing.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

How does one mock God? “Be not deceived; God is not mocked” (understand Paul is addressing believers. It is obvious the heathen mock God) What does mocked mean in the original Greek?

Strongs Number: G3456
Word: mukthrizw
Pronounced: mook-tay-rid’-zo
1) to turn up the nose or sneer at
2) to mock, deride

Dictionary definition
verb:- to laugh at or make fun of (someone or something) especially by copying an action or a way of behaving or speaking
adjective: – to imitate (as a mannerism) closely

Most of the Church body is mocking God by not “seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”. Following the deceptive teachings of those aforementioned prosperity preachers, they miss the real blessings of God and fall prey to their own greed. The lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life is leading them into a deep pit they may never escape. God will not honor or bless this kind of seeking, the devil does.

The wolves in sheep’s clothing like to quote 2nd Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” and Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”,

To motivate greedy church members into sowing a large seed with the expectation that they will receive the promise of the 100 fold blessing, in return. Yes, God does mention a 100 fold blessing. In fact, he mentions 30, 60 and 100 fold blessing. However, these were never related to money. Not related to material blessings at all. God teaches that we should not be focused on the things of this world (which are corporeal and temporal) but we should store up for ourselves spiritual blessings (which are eternal and cannot be destroyed). He does pour out His blessings upon us here, in this world as well. He blesses us abundantly, and provides for us, all that we need. He multiplies our efforts and endues us with power, when we are working for the Kingdom. There are 25 scriptures related to reward, look them up. You will find very little related to earthly things. His rewards are for those whose giving is out of obedience, with the proper attitude and within the parameters of God’s Word. The truths in these two scriptures will come to pass, only if the person doing the giving is in the will of God. I will again point you to the info I have presented in Blessings – Where are yours coming from? Enough on the monetary implications of sowing and reaping.

The real meaning or Sowing and Reaping is found in verse 8 of Galatians 6. “8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Note that scripture is saying we are either sowing to the flesh, or the spirit. Most people, (and we are still referencing those who claim to know God) are sowing to the flesh wanting and expecting the finer things in life. Jesus never promised believers a life of ease and comfort.

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” What he did promise is he would never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

What is “sowing to the flesh”?

Ephesians 5:16-24 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The desire for the pleasures of the world. The things that are are pleasing to flesh and the eye. We could stop right there because that explains it all. But alas, most will not comprehend and take it to heart. Note: I have added a commentary on Ephesians 5:16-24 here as it would make this writing to long. Avail yourself to it.

I would be a lair and the truth would not be in me (1st John 2:4) if I told you the flesh was not a problem for me. You too are a liar if you claim it’s not a problem. We are so accustomed to the ways of the world from the time we are born. We learn by example as we are growing up and sad to say, 99.9% of us were, and are not being raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Rather, the conditioning and programming related to the fallen system of the world is being pumped into our minds on a daily basis. As a child, we are plopped down in front of the one eyed baby sitter (at least in America, this is the case) known as the television set and fed a steady diet of perversion and corruption! With Wifi and Cell phones, we are now wired into the Devil’s system everywhere we go, 24 hours a day. He is the “Prince of the Power of the Air” so, is it any wonder people have become perverse, obese, inept, and spoiled due to the “I want it right now” mentality? The things of God are mocked and ridiculed in every form of entertainment and that includes children’s cartoons. So why are we surprised that they act as they do?

Most churches and religious organizations do everything possible to appeal to the flesh and draw in the crowd. They have programs, performances and events that are far from being Godly or even having anything to do with God. Some incorporate secular Rock and Roll, Country and even Rapp music into their worship, complete with strobe lights and dance floors! Church has become just another place folks go to be “entertained”. Praise and worship has become a platform for “artists” to display their talents. People look forward, with great anticipation to see what the Praise Team and solo artists will be wearing and how their hair is done. Mimicking Hollywood, even to the point that they have “Christian” award programs. In an effort, to cater to the masses, some are offering former drug users a place where the can “Get High on The Most High”! All of this foolishness is sowing to the flesh and God will not accept such idiocy!

We are in the World so what do we do?

1st John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” We are in the world but are not to partake of, and be like the world. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

We are NOT to bring in the ways of the world in to the Church. The Church is NOT a building but each individual God has called out and saved.

John 15:19 “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”

When we adhere to, desire and covet worldly pleasures, we as a child of God are in direct opposition to His Word and thus reap what we sow.

Here is a very good study on the Doctrine of Separation.

If you go to the store to buy Meat, don't run to the Milk section or the Junk Food aisle looking for it!!

The Meat Section is the True Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Milk Section is likened to those who will not preach on sin and Hell, just a feel good message, the Social gospel.

The Junk Food Isle is the outright false doctrine AKA the prosperity gospel, name it and claim it, the Hebraic Roots movement and other false teachings!!

Feasting on just Milk and Junk will eventually cause you great harm, you can count on it!!
